September 2022: The Training Course on Spatial Monitoring and Conservation Management of UNESCO World Heritage Sites was successfully held.

From September 22 to 23, 2022, the Training Workshop on Space Monitoring and Conservation Management of UNESCO Heritage Sites co-sponsored by the HIST and the Jiuzhaigou Administration was conducted online and offline.

The training session aimed to enable site managers in charge of UNESCO World Heritage, World Biosphere Reserves and World Geoparks (UNESCO Designated Sites) to have a better understanding about the role of space technology, and to enable the researchers to know better about and apply the space technologies to heritage sites.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Research Fellow Chen Fulong. Research Fellow Fu Bihong, Deputy Director of HIST, pointed out in the speech that space technologies application at the heritage sites was very important, and the training provided site managers with all-round knowledge about space technology application. Then, Dr. Shi Pilong represented tutors and Mr. Wang Yan represented trainees to deliver remarks.

The training focused on automatic interpretation and monitoring evaluation of multispectral and hyperspectral remote sensing images, the sustainable development goals of the new-generation digital earth science platform service, the application of Jiuzhaigou virtual ground station, the demonstration of remote sensing data processing and natural heritage site monitoring application, the remote sensing application of unmanned aerial vehicles, and staff training. On these topics many experts presented future-oriented lectures and reports in an easy-to-understand way.
